Key Optical Communication Devices
Currently, 850nm VCSEL technology is highly mature and widely deployed in short-reach optical interconnects using multimode fiber. With the advancement of long-wavelength VCSELs, they are emerging as cost-effective, high-performance laser sources with significant application potential in fiber-optic communication networks, high-speed data transmission, and parallel optical interconnects. Particularly for medium- and long-reach high-speed transmission, long-wavelength VCSELs offer distinct advantages over their short-wavelength counterparts.
The development of fiber access networks, along with the future implementation of Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) and Fiber-to-the-Curb (FTTC), is expected to create substantial market demand for long-wavelength VCSELs. Furthermore, tunable wavelength VCSEL arrays hold great potential for applications in local area networks and long-haul ultra-high-capacity data transmission. By providing multiple wavelengths, they effectively combine the spatial parallelism and wavelength characteristics of VCSELs, significantly enhancing system capacity and data rates. This makes them an optimal choice for building Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) networks and all-optical networks. As such, multi-wavelength laser arrays have become a key component in WDM systems.
